It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but before the festivities begin we wanted to re-cap on what has been yet another epic, enjoyable and fun filled year for Peaktipis. 2015 has been and almost gone in what feels like the blink of an eye, but boy has it been filled to the brim with amazing Weddings, Events, a once-in-a lifetime Tipi trip, winning another Industry award and some superb styled Tipi photo shoots….and we’ve LOVED every minute! It doesnt feel that long ago since we were writing our ‘2014 year in review’ blog, yet here were are again with a Tipi Trip down a Tipi-tastic 2015, Enjoy!

A flashback across another epic year

A once in a life time Tipi trip

Ahead of our seasons start at the end of March we set off to the Swedish Lapland, the heartland of the indigenous Sámi people, thanks to our Tent provider’s, Tentipis. We won the exciting Tipi Adventure trip along with three other Tipi providers in the UK.

A flashback across another epic year

We flew into Stockholm, back on another plane over to Skelleftea, then from there hired a car to road-trip up to Arvidsjaur where we were meeting the rest of the group to experience the Nordic tipis in their authentic form. First stop on day one was to the Tentipi production factory where we got to see firsthand how and where our beloved tents are made. We were extremely privileged to be let loose on the industrial sewing machines to ‘have a go’ for ourselves and got to craft a small bag from the famous Tentipi canvas. From there-on-in we got to encounter life as a Sámi resident from dog sledding to ice fishing; skiddoo driving to arctic barbecues we had the full experience. Setting up camp in the Tipis on the fresh snow in temperatures of -18 degrees with nothing other than a reindeer hide, our sleeping bags and a small burning stove – {no groundsheet} – made for an interesting night’s sleep!

It has to go down as one of the best experiences of our lives, challenging, testing but extremely enjoyable all wrapped up in one. We met some incredible people also during the trip who we shared and created lots of memorable moments with. Another huge thank you to Tentipis for allowing us to experience this incredible adventure and understand firsthand the heritage of our Nordic Tipis.

Open Weekends and Showcasing Events

We showcased our Tipis at a number of events throughout 2015 and a huge thank you goes out again to the amazing teams of talented and inspirational friends in the Wedding Industry who were involved in all of the events, for all of their hard work, passion and assistance in making each one a huge success.

Spring Open Weekend

The end of April saw our annual Spring Open Weekend, which was our fifth showcasing Open Weekend and in our fifth wonderful year too, so it was guaranteed to be bigger and better than ever for all of our potential Bride and Grooms to be. We set up in heart of the Derbyshire Peak District,  nestling on the outskirts of our hometown at the Izaak Walton Hotel with panoramic and breathtakingly beautiful views overlooking the spectacular Dovedale Valley. The weather was spectacular and we were overwhelmed by the attendance over the two days.

Autumn Open Weekend

At the end of September we hosted our annual Autumn Open Weekend, although the weather made it feel like the height of Summer which was a huge bonus! We hosted the Autumn Open Weekend at a rural Saw Mill set amongst the lush green Derbyshire countryside, in a field lined with an abundance of  logs.  A superbly talented and trusted team of wedding professional friends came together to showcase a beautiful botanical and rustic theme for our sixth showcasing Open Weekend.

Styled Shoots

We teamed up twice this year with some of the Wedding industries finest talent from across the East Midlands region to create two very different, but equally inspiring styled Tipi shoots.

Spring Up Cycled Styled Shoot

This Spring styled shoot took inspiration from the beautiful surroundings of Thorpe Cloud and Dove Dale in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District, along with the natural, rustic presence of the Tipis to create a relaxed, whimsical and fun theme. The rationale behind the shoot involved tapping into the emerging trend for paint splashes and abstract art and combining this with the concept of re-cycling – re purposing of everyday items to give them a newfound use and beauty.

The palette was fun, springtime, candy sweet, to contrast with the upcycled elements, whilst also keeping a romantic, feminine theme.  An outdoor, summer feeling was delivered through both colour and the use of icons such as bicycles and kites. We are thrilled to have received National coverage of this shoot too across National Wedding Blogs such as Rock & Roll Bride and Mr & Mrs Unique.

The shoot was also  captured in motion, by the stupendous Adam Galwas Wedding Film Maker to give it a whole other dimension.

Autumn Beautiful Botanical Styled Shoot

A field lined with logs at a rural Derbyshire Saw Mill, came the inspiration for this styled shoot. We wanted to go back to nature bringing the outdoors in, to compliment the natural, rustic elegance of the Tipis themselves. The look is clean and simplistic, but with natural rawness and texture. We wanted to create a fresh and simple shoot, with greens, browns, and a soft metallic colour palette, incorporating rustic and earthy elements from the outdoor surroundings. Lush green ferns, earthy, raw wood touches and crisp white linens gave a chic, botanical feel, but with a nod towards rustic, woodland accents too.

Overall, we wanted to give inspiration to Brides and Grooms to be, as to how they can perfectly infuse their Wedding day with natural elements and create a pretty, nature inspired atmosphere working with materials that are easy to find. It was great to receive coverage of this shoot within And So To Wed’s National Wedding blog.
